1. Can you introduce what the congress is for CARTES & Identification?

The congress is held beside the show during the 3 days.

3. How did the Congress evolved since its first edition?

CARTES actually started as a way smaller conference at the CNIT in La Defense, France. In 25 years it has evolved into the great event we know today, and is present over 3 continents with CARTES in ASIA and CARTES in North America.

CARTES Congress has really become a world reference for our industry. It welcomes each year more than 1300 participants of which 80% are international. It is the most awaited event in the Digital Security & the Smart Card Industry!

 

Mobile Payments

Mobile payments will soon take an important place in our daily lives, as more and more mobile devices including NFC chips are being released on the market such as for example the next Google phone recently announced.

Juniper Research, a European based provider of business intelligence, released a study forecasting that mobile contactless payment transactions are expected to reach nearly $50 billion worldwide in 2014 and NFC solutions will be launched in 20 countries within the next 18 months.

As the leading international business event for the Smart Security, Innovative Payment & Identification sector, CARTES highlights several important initiatives benefiting the industry, including Mobile Banking, Mobile services, Mobile Payment via NFC or other contactless technology.

Turkey gets ready for CARTES

Why is Turkey such a dynamic market in the smart card industry?  

In just a few years, Turkey became one of the most advanced European countries in terms of credit and debit card usage. It is now, with a 40% growth in the amount of cards produced over the last 5 years, the largest ATM market in Europe. But Turkey is not only a major actor in terms of sheer numbers; the country is one of the most advanced in terms of implementing new technologies. For example, the country is the first one to deliver a national identity card which include an EMV payment function, also the first commercial roll-out of an NFC mobile payment and loyalty solution was launched last February by a Turkish bank, Garanti as part of a partnership with Avea and Gemalto.
